Reading Foundations
Structured 1-on-1 reading support for students who need explicit instruction in phonics, decoding, spelling, and fluency. With 300+ hours of Orton-Gillingham–based teaching experience, I use a systematic, multisensory approach to build strong reading and spelling foundations through phoneme-grapheme mapping, decodable texts, dictation, and targeted practice.

ESL English Builder
Build confidence and fluency across all four core language areas: reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Sessions focus on structured grammar development, vocabulary expansion, pronunciation clarity, and real-world communication skills. Individualized instruction supports learners in developing both accuracy and natural fluency.

Academic English Builder
Build vocabulary, strengthen grammar, and deepen reading comprehension through explicit, structured instruction. Students receive guided support in narrative writing and essay writing across persuasive, reflective, informational, and expository forms. They learn to draft, revise, and finalize clear, organized writing with strong thesis statements, precision, confidence, and personal voice. (Strengthens IELTS exam skills.)

IELTS Academic English Builder
IELTS Academic English Builder supports students preparing for the IELTS Academic exam while strengthening academic vocabulary, reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills. Lessons move step by step through IELTS task types, helping students understand prompts, find evidence, organize ideas, write and speak formally, and build confidence.

My Teaching Approach: Mastery Learning
Understanding Mastery Learning:
How Students Build Strong Skills Step-by-Step

At Miss A’s English Academy, I use a Mastery Learning Approach to help students build strong, lasting skills with confidence.
Mastery learning means a student works on a skill until it is truly understood before moving on. Instead of rushing through material on a fixed schedule, instruction adjusts to the student’s learning needs.
My Goal
My goal is to provide thoughtful, individualized support that helps each student make steady, confident progress.
At Miss A’s English Academy, students are supported step by step so they can build strong English skills with clarity, confidence, and long-term growth.
Traditional Learning vs. Mastery Learning
Traditional Learning

In a traditional classroom setting, students often move through lessons at a quicker pace on a set timeline. This can sometimes leave gaps in understanding.
Traditional learning may include:
-
A fixed pace
-
A whole-group schedule
-
One main chance to show learning
-
Moving on before learning gaps are fully closed
Mastery Learning
Mastery learning focuses on helping each student feel secure before moving forward.
Mastery learning includes:
-
A flexible pace
-
Student-centered progress
-
Frequent checks for understanding
-
Extra support, practice, or enrichment before moving on
How the Mastery Learning Process Works
1. Assess
First, I identify the student’s current skills, strengths, and learning needs.
2. Teach
Next, I introduce the target concept clearly and directly.
3. Practice
The student practices the skill with guidance, support, and corrective feedback.
4. Check for Mastery
I use quick assessments or learning checks to see whether the student truly understands the skill.
5. Review, Reteach, or Enrich
Depending on the student’s progress, I provide extra support, more practice, or enrichment activities.
6. Move Forward
Once the skill is secure, the student moves on with greater confidence.

Why Mastery Learning Benefits Students
Builds Confidence
Students experience success as they strengthen each skill step by step.
Reduces Learning Gaps
Important concepts are reinforced before new ones are added.
Encourages Deeper Understanding
Students learn for real understanding, not just for a test.
Supports Different Learning Speeds
Some students need more time, while others are ready to move ahead more quickly.
Provides Multiple Opportunities to Succeed
Students can practice, improve, and show growth over time.

What Mastery Learning Does Not Mean
Mastery learning does not mean slowing students down unnecessarily.
It means making sure learning is secure, meaningful, and lasting. Students who master a skill quickly can move ahead, explore enrichment activities, or take on a greater challenge.
